Online Marketing

The Clue Is In The Title (There Are Two Words!)

As the internet becomes the default marketing tool for nearly all businesses, most owners understand that to be successful they have to a successful online presence. But in the single phrase most commonly used to describe this e.g. online marketing they are forgetting a key component, and this mistake is literally costing them thousands of £s in lost sales and wasted costs.

And here’s the huge mistake – they’re only acting on one part of the phrase and that is normally the online part, whereas in fact the expression is actually a necessary double act.

I see so many companies that are willing to pay hard cash to buy a domain, have a website designed, hosted and maintained, and then they believe they have a web business presence.

They don’t – that alone will not work – it’s like building Harrods in the middle of the Sahara desert – no-one will visit!

The phrase is online marketing but they’ve only done the online part.

To be frank, if you don’t market your web presence properly you’re basically wasting your money – you might as well stand in the high street and burn money as you’ll get much better publicity!

In 2014, consumers look to buy everything and anything online, and in the UK that means you need to be on Google. And the reason it has to be Google is because they dominate the UK market (about 92% of UK searches are on Google). So, if you’re not on Google you don’t exist, and it’s worse than that – you have to be page one of Google as that’s where 90% of people find what they’re looking for.

So what does this mean? Simply put, if you don’t promote your web presence your online marketing will fail.

Take a check – type in the type of product or service you offer and the area you supply e.g. accountants horsham, and see what comes up. If you’re not on page one, all those companies that are listed are getting your business.

Worrying isn’t it! But you can do something about it, just as you did when you needed to get your website.
